Postmodenernist Theory

  • Diliberately rejects the idea that there are highs and low culture.
  • They tend to avoid rigid genre distinctions.
  • Rather than conforming to genre distinctions, postmodernist took a preference of the following formats:
    • Pastiche: A mixture of different forms.
    • Prorody: A spoof version of genre
    • Bricolage: Use of material avaliable despite the intended purpose.
    • Irony: When there is tension between what is siad and what is meant.

  • Very important concepts in postmodernism.
  • Intertextuality is the way that one text may make use of another to add further.
