Film Ident

Here I will watch serveral idents to explain the reasons behind them and then at the end of this post I will show the ident used in my groups trailer 'THE DARKNESS'.
This is the paramount ident, this one was made in 1995 and was featured on the begining of their movies for 4 years, the ident ties in with the mountian because para'mount' and the mountian, people will make the connection with this and understand what it means and why it has been done. The flying stars show that they have thought about what they are doing on the ident and wanted to make it magical and also serious at the same time. Paramount pictures dont make to many horror films but if they did they would adjust the ident to film the genre of the film as they do for each film that they produce.
This is the ident for Walt Disney pictures, this is a very famous ident as people know what type of film it is going to be as it doesnt have dark and mysterious music in the background and dark images it has music that sounds like magic and a picture of the castle which allows you to know the films is ok for children and can be trusted by the company to produce something real even if it is an animation. The trailer starts by starting looking at the stars which in its self is magical, they have thought well about this because it isnt to long and isnt to short as it doesnt rush through it even though people know what company it is and they know that it will be a brilliant and trusted film.
This is the ident for Columbia pictures that is a well known production company that can be recognised by people just hearing the music that is played every time it comes on at the being of the film, the ident is classy and doesn't ever need to be changed to fit the next generation as everyone know what the company is and what they do also they types of films that they produce. The indent is very colourful and bright and usually doesn't come up at the beginnings of horror films, bit it could do if they changed the the music and made it a little darker to fit the scene.
This is the ident that me and my group decided to use on our film, we felt that it can be used for any film that it is put in front over as it has magic and also a sense of mystery. This ident is very well known as it is put on a lot of well known films that people are familiar with. It has mystery and sparkle in it that leave the audience wondering it is a horror or isnt it.

Finished Film Magazine

The two pictures above show the images that I was deciding from to put onto my Magazine front cover. The reason that I wanted to used the top picture was because it is of the woods/grass area that I thought would look good because it is in the park and the park is a nice place during the day but at night it is a lonely scary place to be and isn't recommend to go to 'When the lights go out' which ties down with the slogan and what the film is about. The reason why I didn't use the picture because when I took it I didn't realise that there was a squirrel in it and a squirrel doesn't really show horror or creepiness. The second picture that I chose to use was the picture of the tree with the word run on it, I think that is shows something creepy and mysterious because someone could be running from 'THE DARKNESS' and see the tree that is telling them to run, it makes it more dramatic and continues the story line like I wanted it to, but nothing is revealed in the trailer. This image will be used on my front cover and I will make it work to the best of my ability, and make sure that is represents the trailer and the film.

This is my Magazine front cover for 'THE DARKNESS' the image that I have used for my magazine front cover took a lot of time to think and make sure that I made the right decision that would promote the music as much as possible, I believe that this ties well with the poster as the poster shows the hooded figure heading towards 'THE DARKNESS' and this shows the tree with the word 'RUN' on it, this shows the that I have thought about what I want to have on my magazine front cover and the poster that tie together with trailer. The picture was taken on the 25th October 2011 as me and my group were filming in the woods for our film trailer. The colour scheme for this magazine front cover is red, yellow and white I choose these colours because I want the text and the information to stand out and people to notice  what is on the cover and want to buy the magazine to see the stories inside. There is the masthead at the top of page was created on cooltext.co.uk I wanted to make it different and out of the ordinary so I created it on that website to make sure that no one else had the text, all I had to do was to pick the text I wanted, the affect, and the colour of it, then I clicked the download button and I placed them onto the poster to allow them to fit the way that I wanted them to when the poster was complete, this stands out and would be noticeable on the magazine stand in a shop. The next thing I did to this magazine front cover was to make the header above the masthead, this was also made on cooltext.co.uk very easy to make again and has a great affect on it and stands out which is what I wanted it to do. The next thing I did was the text on the page such as 'WARNER BROS REJECT SWEENEY TODD TWO PARAMOUNT THEATRE TO SUE WB' I choose the text that I wanted to keep on the front cover which was 'OCR A std' and I used size '25.73pt' and most of it is in yellow and some of it is in red, they don't have any affects on them as I think it looks ok without it and stands out without the affects as well. I added the black background to the text because it seemed to look better than it did when the text was just over the picture I added this by clicking on the 'rectangle tool' which allowed me to put the shape to the size that I wanted it to be and for it to fit behind the text perfectly. I added the bar code to show that it is for sale and people have to pay for it and I also added the price underneath the masthead to show the people how much the magazine is and also on the other side of this is the issue number which shows how many issues of the magazine have been published and what number this one is. The 'FREE 'THE DARKNESS' POSTER & BRACELET' part was done again using the rectangle tool and picking a custom shape to put the text in and turn it to the side to make it stand out a bit better than it would without the frame on it and the rectangle behind it so that there isn't just a line of text that are on the page over the picture.

Finished Film Poster

The two pictures above are the pictures that I narrowed down from several that I wanted to go on my Film Poster, the first image is of a candle that I took in my living room to symbolise the slogan 'Don't turn out the light' I thought it would be a good idea to put a candle as the main image as it shows light and a small source of it, so if that went out then there would be complete DARKNESS which is related to the film. When I was putting the image in onto the poster it kept going blurry and very stretched and it wouldn't go the way that I wanted it to go, I tried to darken it and that didn't work, I also tried to crop it to make the whole image smaller and just focus on the candle and that didn't work either so I tried the second image. The second image of Sabrina walking down a country road was much better it was easier to fit onto the front page as there was a lot of the image to work with and I had the choice weather to make the image smaller or keep it the same, I decided to keep the image the same size as it fits the page perfectly with everything going over the top of the image.
This is my Film poster for 'The Darkness' this image took a long time to put together as it took a lot of thought as I wanted to put the candle on the front cover to allow it to go with the slogan 'Don't turn out the light' as the candle would have represented the light and the only thing that is stopping bad things from happening if and when the light goes out, which is the message from the film itself, this would have been a good idea if the image would have stretched and fit to the place that I wanted it to but it didn't so I had to go down another route, which lead me to use the image that is on the poster itself. This image was taken on the 23rd of October 2011 it is of Sabrina in her costume of black coat, blue jeans and converse trainers the coat adds the affects of creepiness to show that she is maybe searching for something or waiting for 'THE DARKNESS' to come before she does something terrible that isn't given away in the trailer. The affects that are added to the image are stroke this made the image darker and added the affect of something happening when the sun goes down all I did to add this affect was to double click the picture and select the stroke option and use the dial to move 'THE DARKNESS' up or down, which I choose to put down it would have given the wrong message if I was to put the stroke up because it wouldn't be creepy or mysterious like I wanted it to be. The second thing is the text 'DONT TURN OUT THE LIGHTS', 'THE DARKNESS' and 'SUMMER 2012' these where all made on cooltext.co.uk these where very easy to make, all I had to do was to pick the text I wanted, the affect, and the colour of it, then I clicked the download button and I placed them onto the poster to allow them to fit the way that I wanted them to when the poster was complete, I kept them all the same colour as it keeps a consistent house style and I made then larger and smaller by clicking 'CTRL+T' and changed the size that I wanted to make sure that I was happy with what I produced. The billing block took a long time to do as the main title are in bold and capitals and the likes of the words 'presents' and 'director of' these where put in a smaller size text as that is less important than the the main title that are on the block, the words on the billing block are:

"UNIVERSAL PICTURES PRESENTS
IN ASSOCIATION WITH LEGENDARY PICTURES A MAD CHANCE/WEED ROAD PRODUCTION JOSEPH CALDON SABRINA MALHOTRA NICOLLE ABBOTT CHRIS KINGSBURY ANDREW KELLER CLARE GARSIDE MUSIC BY MARCO BELTRAM AND RILEY WILSON EDITED BY DAN HEALETY A.C.E KENT BENYLA A.C.E FERNANDO VERTIRA PRODUCTION DESIGNER TOM MEYER DIRECTOR OF

HANNAH FYLER EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS THOMAS HILL CLARE GARSIDE
WILLIAM FAY JACK ETHIENET STORY BY DESERET BOOK CO. AND WILSON & JACKSON SCREENPLAY BY WILSON & JACKSON PRODUCED BY EVEN IPLSON AND CHRISTINA YANG DIRECTED BY MICHAEL BAY"

I added the Legendary pictures and Universal pictures logos to the bottom of the page as I researched posters that have been done in the past and they showed a large billing block with pictures of the companies that are involved along the bottom of the screen underneath the billing block and not above. I also added the book company that produced the book that the film is based on and also another company that helped make the film. The billing block consists of made up names and also names of people that where involved in the making of the film such as Sabrina Malhotra, Nicolle Abbott, Andrew Keller etc, it also has real names of real people that are in the film business such as Michael Bay who is a famous film director.
